Five Museums To Visit This Summer In Reno

Are you looking for something to do to get out of the house this summer? But aren’t sure what to do? Reno is full of fun things to do, from a day at the park to checking out one of the local Basque Restaurants. However, as the weather warms up and you don’t want to spend as much time in the heat, one of the best things to do is spend the afternoon at great local museums. It’s a perfect way to not only learn something new but can also help curb those feelings of being stuck at home.

Today we’ve compiled a list of some of the best museums in the Reno area. And you’ll want to believe us when we say, you’re going to want to check out each one of these places. 1) The Discovery

Opened in 2011, The Discovery is a place for learning while having fun. With hands-on galleries and exhibitions, kids are able to explore and learn. Though it was originally designed to be a children’s museum, it’s quickly transformed into a world-class science center. Bring both your young kids as well as the older ones as there’s something for everyone.

2) Fleischmann Planetarium

This historic landmark was opened in 1963 and has become deeply ingrained in the Reno Community. Fleischmann Planetarium is a great place for field trips for students. Though it’s also open to the local community to provide people of all ages to experience the Full-Dome Theater. As well as the many amazing exhibits around the facility.

3) John and Geraldine Lilley Museum of Art

A part of UNR, the John and Geraldine Lilly Museum of Art is a great place to spend your afternoon. There are a wide variety of exhibits, including the Front Door Gallery which is dedicated to contemporary local artists. As well as the Investment Gallery is home to rotating, long-term exhibitions. 4) Wilbur D. May Center

The Wilbur D. May Center, there’s not only a museum but they have an arboretum as well as botanical gardens. Here you can learn more about Wilbur D. May, a philanthropist who the museum is named after. While also exploring his private collection which includes antique firearms, taxidermy, and saddlery and western ranching artifacts. Plus so much more.

5) National Automobile Museum

The National Automobile Museum’s mission is to collect and preserve the automobile for future generations. And in doing so, they tell the story of the impact the automobile has had on American society. Visit one of the many exhibits they have going on throughout the year. They are currently celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of American Graffiti, which you don’t want to miss out on.

With so many great museums to choose from in the Reno area, it can be hard to choose which one is the best to visit.
